Troubleshooting

Fixes for no sound, dropouts, missing devices and activation.

Troubleshooting · Updated 2026-06-30

Most issues come down to audio device settings. Work through the relevant section below; if you're still stuck, reach out via support.

I hear no sound

  • Check Settings → Audio and confirm the correct output device is selected.
  • Make sure the pad actually has audio loaded and its gain isn't at zero.
  • If you route Master to a separate device, confirm that device is connected and not muted at the OS level.

Clicks, crackles or dropouts under load

CueCart runs on Windows Audio (WASAPI). To steady playback under load:

  • Raise the audio buffer size one step in Settings → Audio. A larger buffer trades a little latency for stability.
  • Switch the device to its Exclusive WASAPI variant when you can give CueCart sole use of the interface — exclusive mode bypasses the Windows mixer for cleaner, lower-latency output.
  • Close other heavy audio apps that may be contending for the device.

My audio interface isn't listed

  • Confirm the device is connected and its driver is installed.
  • In Settings → Audio, click Rescan to refresh the device list, then pick the interface.

Latency feels high

  • Lower the audio buffer size a step at a time in Settings → Audio until you hear instability, then go back up one.
  • Use the Exclusive WASAPI variant of your device — it gives the tightest latency Windows Audio allows.

My license won't activate

  • Make sure you're using the same email you used at checkout (Settings → License).
  • Payment confirmation can take a few minutes to reach your license — refresh again shortly.
  • Already activated on another machine? Request a license reset to move it. See Licensing.

A cue's source file moved

For media you imported into the Library, CueCart tracks it by stable identity rather than disk path, so reorganising those files on disk won't break playback. A cue that points directly at a loose file on disk (not a Library import) can still go missing if that file is moved or renamed.

When a referenced file can't be found, the status bar shows a Missing Media: N indicator. Click it to open the Missing Media Repair dialog, which lists every affected cue pad:

  • Relink Selected… — pick one row, then choose the replacement file from disk in the file chooser. The cue stays assigned and points at the new file.
  • Search Folder… — choose a folder (optionally including subfolders) and CueCart matches missing files by filename across the selected cues — handy when a whole batch moved together.

Cue pads stay assigned the whole time, so nothing is lost while you relink.

Where to next

  • Audio setup — choosing a device and routing.
  • Licensing — activation, resets and moving machines.
  • The Library — importing media so playback survives file moves.
