The DJ Deck

A built-in streaming player for beds, music and long-form playout — independent of your Sets and pads.

The DJ Deck is CueCart's built-in player for the long stuff — music beds, walk-in music, a bed under a segment, a whole track between links. It sits in the right-hand sidebar and runs completely independently of your Sets and your pads: load a track on the deck and it keeps playing while you switch banks, switch Sets, or rework your grid. Where a cue pad fires a short clip instantly, the deck streams one long track at a time, with proper transport, a waveform you can scrub, and a queue that plays on through the show.

The deck is on by default — it's the entire right sidebar. Use the chevron in its header to collapse it out of the way when you want more room for the cartwall, and expand it again when you need it back.

Loading a track

You can put a track on the deck three ways, and they all land in the same place — your Media Library — first:

  • Drag from Windows Explorer straight onto the deck to import it.
  • Ctrl-drag from the Library — find a track in the left sidebar and Ctrl-drag it onto the deck.
  • Ctrl-drag a cue — hold Ctrl and drag any cue pad onto the deck.
  • Load from the queue — double-click a row in the deck's playlist (more below).

Everything you drop on the deck is imported into the Library before it plays, so the deck only ever plays media CueCart knows about. That includes the same formats your pads accept — WAV, AIFF, FLAC, MP3, Ogg Vorbis and the AAC family (.m4a, .aac, .m4b). Video containers such as .mp4 aren't supported — CueCart is audio-only.

Transport

The deck's transport row gives you the controls you'd expect at a deck:

  • CUE — set and jump to your cue point, CDJ-style.
  • PLAY / PAUSE — one button that toggles: press to play, press again to pause.
  • STOP — stop and reset.
  • LISTEN — a headphone PFL toggle. Turn it on to hear the deck on your cue (headphone) bus while the room keeps hearing the show; turn it off and the deck returns to Master. It always starts off at the beginning of a session.

Scrubbing and the jog wheel

The deck shows a waveform of the loaded track. Click or drag on it to seek straight to a position. The jog wheel gives you fine, vinyl-style control — grab it to hold the track, nudge it to scratch or shift the timing, and release to let it run again.

Gain and tempo

Two faders shape the sound:

  • Gain sets the deck's level. It rests at unity (0 dB) — its natural resting position — so a freshly loaded track plays at its true level. Push above for a lift, pull down to duck under a link.
  • Tempo is a ±16% varispeed fader: speed the track up or slow it down, vinyl-style, with pitch following tempo. This is a per-session control — it isn't saved with the track or the Set, and it returns to normal next time.

Cue points and hot cues

Beyond the main cue point (set and recalled with the CUE button), the deck gives you four hot-cue markers you can drop on the waveform and jump straight back to. Markers are saved per track and follow that track across every Set on this machine — set them once on a music bed and they're there the next time you load it, in any show.

The queue

The deck has its own queue (playlist) that you build up and run through during a show. It's app-wide and survives Set switches — change shows and your queue is still there, ready to play on. Drop Library tracks, Explorer files or even pads into it, reorder rows, sort, and remove what you don't need.

The queue's playback follows two independent controls:

  • Repeat — off (stop at the end of the queue), one (repeat the current track), or all (loop the whole queue).
  • Autoplay-next — when on, the deck rolls straight into the next queued track as each one finishes.

If a track's file goes missing, its row stays put as a dimmed, inert entry — it's never silently dropped, and your queue keeps its place.

Automix

Turn on Automix and the deck blends from one queued track to the next with an equal-power crossfade, so there's no gap and no level dip between songs. Two modes decide when the blend happens:

  • Skip-Silence (the default) — trims trailing silence so tracks butt up cleanly.
  • Full-Track — plays each track to its very end before the crossfade.

What the deck doesn't do (yet)

The deck is a clean playout deck, not a full DJ mixer. In this version it has:

  • No EQ or filter knobs — the deck has gain and tempo, not a tone/filter section.
  • No manual crossfader — blends happen through Automix, not a hand-mixed fader.
  • No beat-sync — the third transport button is STOP, not a sync control.
  • Display-only BPM — any tempo shown is informational; CueCart doesn't analyse or beat-match tracks.
